ChatGPT Dots and Space: What Igor's First Workflow Actually Did

What changes when an assistant can keep checking a task after you close the chat? In The AI Advantage's 12-minute first look, Igor Pogany gives his new ChatGPT Dot a concrete job: find used camper vans near Lisbon, watch for new listings, and keep a shortlist in ChatGPT Space. The value is not the first search alone. It is the attempt to turn that search into an ongoing, reviewable workflow.

The short answer

Igor's Dot found listings, created an hourly scheduled check, and built a Space page for the shortlist. A phone call failed, the page took several minutes to create, and two sites blocked its browser. This is a useful demonstration of coordinated work, not proof of flawless 24/7 monitoring.

The Workflow: Search, Schedule, Review

  1. Give the Dot a bounded search. Igor asks for three used camper vans near Lisbon within a EUR 20,000-50,000 budget. The Dot asks follow-up questions and uses its own cloud browser to inspect listings. Watch the search.
  2. Turn it into a recurring check. Igor requests updates every 30 minutes. The Scheduled view shows a task set to run hourly, a discrepancy worth catching before you rely on an alert. The video shows the schedule, not a complete audit of every subsequent run. Watch the schedule.
  3. Give the output a home. He asks the Dot to create a "camper vans" page and append new findings there. The page eventually contains a shortlist and links; the Dot links it to the scheduled task. Watch the tracker.

That is a sensible division of labor: the agent researches and prepares; a person checks the listings, price, condition, and seller before contacting anyone or spending money. OpenAI documents scheduled checks and a profile where you can inspect in-progress, scheduled, and completed work.

What Space Adds, and What It Does Not

Space is the document layer in this video. Igor creates pages and subpages, adds headings and an image, tries an AI writing action, and shows comments and sharing. The Dot then uses a page as the durable camper-van tracker. OpenAI's Space guide describes editable pages, nested organization, and collaboration. Space replaces Library for accounts with access; Projects remain separate.

A page is not a guarantee that every new result will appear automatically. The observed workflow required Igor to ask the Dot to create and link the tracker, and the page creation took about five minutes. OpenAI's Space guide says the separate Keep updated automatic page-update feature is not available at launch. Treat the Dot's scheduled task, the page content, and any notification as three things to inspect separately.

Before sharing a page, read it: OpenAI warns that private context can become visible if ChatGPT writes it into a shared page. Sharing a page does not share private chats or memory directly, but page content is visible to its viewers.

Rough Edges, Permissions, and Access

Observed in Igor's testWhat a reader should do
The phone-call attempt failed in this recording.Use text or voice input as a fallback; do not assume call reliability from a launch demo.
The requested 30-minute check was saved as hourly.Inspect the actual schedule and notification settings before treating it as monitoring.
The Dot initially appeared unable to use skills, yet its later task activity showed skill-library access.Check the specific task and enabled tools; do not infer a universal capability rule from the interface alone.
Claude and Amazon blocked the Dot's cloud-browser attempt.Plan for site restrictions; do not treat a cloud computer as unrestricted account access.
The next morning, it suggested following up on an overdue travel-related status update. This was a suggestion, not evidence that it sent a message or completed the underlying task.

OpenAI says personal Pro access initially excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Business Premium is listed across supported ChatGPT regions; Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare use an admin-enabled beta. Rollout is gradual. Igor says he used a VPN for his own test, but that is not an official access path to recommend. Check current eligibility before paying for a plan.

A Dot's cloud computer is distinct from your laptop. Local access is off by default and requires explicit connection in the desktop app. Connected apps may supply information for proactive research, and disconnecting an app does not by itself erase information the Dot already obtained. Review its activity and permissions, and use rules that require your approval for messages, purchases, account changes, or sharing. OpenAI explicitly notes that Dots can make mistakes even when following rules.

Try One Useful Job First

Start with a task that has a clear trigger, a trustworthy source, and a short output. A weekly check of public supplier updates or a daily calendar-conflict brief is easier to review than an instruction to "manage my life." Tell the assistant what to watch, how often, what counts as a meaningful change, and where the evidence should be written. Then compare two or three runs with the underlying sources.

If Dots is unavailable, use a scheduled reminder plus an assistant you already have. The first question to validate is whether the briefing saves real time. Only after that should you consider wider app access or autonomous actions.

Turn the Pattern Into a Business Idea

Monitoring plus a concise, evidence-linked briefing can be a service when it solves a costly recurring problem for a specific buyer. This prompt works in any capable AI assistant and does not depend on Dots access.

Common questions

What did Igor's Dot actually complete?
It researched used camper vans, created an hourly recurring check, and made a Space page with a shortlist and links. The video shows setup and an overnight update, not a measured success rate for every future check.
Are Dots and ChatGPT Space the same thing?
No. A dot is an ongoing agent with a cloud computer and scheduled work. Space organizes editable pages and files; the dot can write results to a page.
Can I create a Dot on a personal Pro plan in Portugal?
Not in the initial personal Pro rollout, which excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Business Premium is listed across supported ChatGPT regions, with gradual rollout. Check OpenAI's current help page before subscribing.
Does a Dot automatically control my own computer or send messages?
No. Local computer access is optional and off by default. Connected apps and action rules are separate choices; keep consequential actions under review.
