Claude 2.0 Desktop: What Changed and What to Try First

“Claude 2.0” is Futurepedia's name for a redesigned Claude desktop workflow, not a new model. The practical upgrade is a clearer place for each kind of work: Home for conversation and artifacts; Code for file-aware sessions you can inspect, split, steer from a phone, or run in the cloud. In the 15-minute walkthrough, Futurepedia also demonstrates nested work, Projects and mods. Those are useful additions, but they do not all have the same access rules or persistence.

The short answer

Start with one real task, not every new feature. Make a Doc or Slide in Home if you need a shareable output. Use Code when Claude must work in a folder, review changes, or run checks. Turn on Remote Control only if you want to steer that local session from another device; choose a cloud session if the computer will be off. Add parallel sessions or mods only after the single-session workflow works.

The screenshots, examples and “v2” verdict are Futurepedia's. This article is an editorial guide based on the supplied transcript and the linked Anthropic documentation; we did not test the rollout on every account. Futurepedia mentions a free setup kit in the video, but its direct URL was not supplied, so check the video's own description rather than a third-party copy.

Source Note: Demo, Documentation and Rollout

Sources checked 4 November 2026. The video shows Futurepedia's account and preferred workflow. Anthropic's desktop reference, artifact access table, Projects help page, Remote Control guide and mods announcement describe the documented behavior. The new Home/Code experience is rolling out; an account that still shows Chat and Cowork has not necessarily received this layout. Plan, admin settings, app version and beta access can change what you see.

Choose Home or Code by the Job

At 00:25, Futurepedia argues that non-coders should try the Code tab. That is sound for file-aware work, but it is not a rule to move every conversation there. The official desktop guide distinguishes the Code workspace from general Claude conversations.

What you needStart withCheck before you continue
An answer or a shareable doc, deck or designHome and an artifactReview the source material and sharing permissions; do not treat an attractive artifact as verified work.
A tool, website, file edit or tested workflowCode in a small, dedicated folderConfirm the working directory, permission mode, diff and a concrete test or output.
Work that must survive a closed laptopA cloud Code sessionThe cloud environment needs the repo and any approved connectors; it cannot simply read arbitrary files left on your computer.

A local Code session still sends task-relevant content to Claude's model service, as Anthropic explains in its Claude Code privacy FAQ. “Runs on my computer” describes where tools and files are accessed, not a promise of on-device model inference. Inspect your organization's data and connector policies before using sensitive material.

Pick the Output Before the Template

Futurepedia's artifact tour names five formats. The official access guide gives a more useful choice rule:

FormatGood first jobAvailability or review note
Docs / Slides / DesignA one-page brief, five-slide update or editable prototypeTemplates are on all plans, subject to settings. Check facts, layout, exports and who can open a shared link.
DashboardsA small chart from a known data sourcePaid-plan beta. Check query, freshness timestamp and connector permissions before relying on a live number.
MotionAn editable explainer or chart animationTeam and Enterprise beta, with admin controls. It creates code-driven animation, not a general video-generation model.

That access distinction matters because Futurepedia says even an Ultra account in the video did not have Motion. It is better to plan around what your account actually offers than a promised future rollout. Anthropic says the standalone Claude Design site is moving into artifacts and is scheduled to close on 14 December 2026.

Use the Layout to Inspect Work

At 03:31, the new session rail becomes the useful piece: it shows where the session runs, its folder, changes and context usage. Anthropic's desktop reference documents those cards and the diff pane. Before a long task, check the environment and working folder. After it, review the diff and run a relevant test. A context ring shows capacity use; it is not a quality meter.

Sections organize sessions in the sidebar. A side chat answers a question using the main conversation's context without adding the answer back to it. It is not saved to disk after closing the app, so move any decision the main task needs into the main session or a project file. Split view puts two sessions side by side; it does not merge their context or resolve conflicting edits.

Remote Control Is Not a Cloud Session

Futurepedia's away-from-desk segment shows three different controls. Keeping the computer awake can help a local task finish. Remote Control lets a phone or browser view and steer that local session, but Anthropic says the computer must remain on and the process running. A cloud session runs on Anthropic-managed infrastructure and can continue after shutdown, but needs the approved repository and cloud-accessible context. Do not treat the phone view as a backup of uncommitted local files.

For a long task, /goal can keep Claude working toward a checkable condition across turns. Write the finish line as evidence: “produce a draft, run these checks, list failures and stop for my review.” “Make it great” is not a test. The command does not override permissions, usage limits or a machine that goes to sleep.

Nested, Master and Project Sessions Solve Different Problems

The multitasking segment can sound like three names for the same thing. Here is the operational difference:

PatternUse whenImportant limit
Nested sessions / suggested tasksA bounded side job can be handled separately, then reported back to the parent task.A task card starts another session; check its environment and permissions. Parallel work consumes usage and can collide on files.
“Master session”You want one desktop chat to ask what other Code sessions are doing or message them. This is a user pattern, not a separate product mode. The desktop view defaults to 20 recent sessions and does not list cloud, CLI or VS Code sessions through that surface.
Redesigned ProjectsA longer goal needs shared instructions, memory, a library and coordinated cloud threads.A staged beta for selected Pro, Max and Ultra Code users. Several threads use allowance faster; overlapping repo edits still need merge review.

Start with one session for work that is sequential or touches the same files. Split only when the tasks have clear owners and independent outputs. A polished orchestration view is not a substitute for reading each result.

Mod the App Only After the Workflow Works

At 12:31, Futurepedia shows mods that change interface behavior, keep a prompt cache warm, preview destructive actions or hide sensitive values while recording. Those are examples, not independently audited recommendations. Anthropic defines a mod as TypeScript code packaged in a plugin that can rewrite prompts, intercept tool calls and change the UI. It runs with Claude Code's machine access and is not sandboxed. Review the source and provenance before installing; test with non-sensitive data; do not rely on a recording-mode mod as the only secret-redaction control.

Common questions

Is Claude 2.0 a new model?
No. Futurepedia uses Claude 2.0 as a nickname for the redesigned desktop experience, not as an Anthropic model name.
Will Remote Control keep a local task running after my laptop closes?
No. Remote Control lets another device steer a session that still executes on your computer. The computer and Claude process must remain running; a cloud session is the option for work that continues after shutdown.
Are Projects, Dashboards and Motion available to every account?
No. The redesigned Projects experience is a staged beta for selected Pro, Max and Ultra Claude Code users. Dashboards are a paid-plan beta; Motion is a Team and Enterprise beta. Admin settings and rollout stage also matter.
Is a master session an official feature?
It is a workflow pattern: use one Code session to ask about and message other desktop sessions. It is not a separate project type or a guarantee that cloud and CLI sessions are visible there.
