Paul J Lipsky tours the Gemini desktop app on a Mac and makes a useful distinction: Chat helps you think; Task tries to finish work. He demonstrates a report built from a local folder, starts another task from his phone, creates an inbox skill, opens Antigravity, and uses voice over desktop files. The app does bring several workflows together, but the video is a Mac tour, not proof that every feature works on Windows, on every plan, or in every country.
Download the app from Google's desktop page, then check which features your account actually has. Google's current Tasks help page says Tasks are unavailable in the European Economic Area, including Portugal, as well as the UK, Switzerland, and Nigeria. Tasks also require an eligible personal account, Pro or Ultra, Keep Activity, and Personal Intelligence. The Mac desktop app, Chat, and some skills have different access rules. Do not buy a plan solely for this Task workflow without confirming your region and account.

Check Access Before Following the Demo
| Feature | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Desktop app | Google offers Mac and Windows downloads. Windows needs Windows 10 or later; Mac needs Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later. Features differ. |
| Tasks | Google lists personal-account, age, plan, activity, intelligence, and regional requirements. Currently excluded in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Nigeria. |
| Connected Mac folders | Documented for eligible Gemini Tasks on macOS, not as a general Windows folder feature. |
| Skills | Available in Gemini mobile, Mac, and web apps for eligible accounts; Google says a paid subscription is not required for skills in chats. |
Google's desktop landing page highlights Mac-native screen context, voice, local files, and Antigravity, while saying more native capabilities will reach Windows over time. Treat each button in Paul's video as a feature to check, not a promise that it appears in your installation.
Chat, Tasks and a Folder on Your Mac
Paul switches between Chat and Task at 00:43. Google says the earlier Spark label was renamed Task; Task is a goal that can use skills, connected apps, browser work, and schedules. Chat remains the lighter surface for questions and drafts. That distinction is useful even when the Task feature is unavailable: decide whether you need an answer, a draft, or an action that changes another system.
For the local-file example, Paul selects a folder containing fictional plumbing-company transactions and reports, asks for a financial presentation, and sees a new report file in the folder (01:30). Google says the Mac app can inspect and modify only folders the user explicitly connects. The choice of folder is therefore the permission boundary. A broad business folder containing contracts, invoices, and bank records gives the agent much more context and write access than a single test folder.
Paul points to Gemini's backup notice. There is an important limit: Google says these temporary backup files are deleted after a new query or task, or after 24 hours. They are not a substitute for your own backup or version history. Google also warns that Gemini may edit connected files by default when asked and that some deletion or sharing actions can be consequential.
Starting a Mac Task From a Phone
At 04:29, Paul starts a second financial report from his phone and selects his Mac as the computer holding the source files. Cloud-only tasks do not need this Mac handoff; local-file tasks do. Paul's setup has the desktop app running and remote tasks enabled.
Google's Mac instructions also require the same signed-in account on both devices and a connection by the same Wi-Fi network or linked Bluetooth. From the phone, choose Task, add Computer, then select the Mac. If the computer is off, the app is closed, the devices are not linked, or Tasks are unavailable in your region, this exact workflow will not run as shown. Start with a disposable folder before allowing remote edits to real business files.
Connectors and Skills Do Different Jobs
Under Customize, Paul shows connectors for reaching services such as Canva, Dropbox, Granola, or Wix, then creates a reusable inbox-management skill (06:10). A connector provides access to another service; a skill stores instructions for how to handle a recurring job. A skill cannot itself grant access to an inbox, and connecting an inbox does not make a sorting policy safe by default.
Google says a skill can be created from a chat, manually, with Gemini, or from a SKILL.md package. It may activate automatically when relevant, or you can select it with the shortcut shown in your app. For Paul's inbox example, I would start with classify and draft only, verify where newsletters and financial messages land, and approve any archive, spam, or send action before turning it into a recurring routine. Connected App availability varies by region, account, device, and service.
Antigravity, Argon and Flash
Paul opens Antigravity from the top-right corner of Gemini and shows a top-down paintball game generated from a short brief (08:45). He says the process took about an hour. It is a prototype demonstration, not a shipped game or proof that generated code is maintainable. Review dependencies, installation prompts, game behavior, and licensing before sharing a build. Google confirms Antigravity's coding interface in the Gemini macOS app.
Paul chooses Gemini 4 Argon for demanding coding and knowledge work, and Flash for routine tasks to preserve usage (10:41). That is his preference, not a universal cost benchmark. Google says Argon and Tasks are available to eligible Pro and Ultra subscribers, subject to the separate Task restrictions above. Check the model menu and your account's current limits before planning a long unattended run.
Speak to Window Without Leaving Your Work
At 11:34, Paul highlights three screenshot files, holds the Fn key, and asks Gemini for video ideas. He then dictates an addition and shares a window into Gemini by pressing both Command keys. Google documents Fn-key dictation and optional screen-aware reasoning on macOS; the desktop page documents the two-Command screen-context shortcut. Check what is selected or visible before invoking it, particularly around private messages or client material.
Paul wants a live voice mode in the desktop app, a built-in browser, and more connectors (13:44). Those are his product wishes, not features already delivered by this video.
A Safer First Workflow
- Confirm eligibility. Check your country, account type, plan, Mac or Windows app, and which controls appear. In Portugal, use Chat or skills rather than expecting Tasks today.
- Prepare a narrow test folder. Use synthetic or non-sensitive files and keep an independent copy.
- Ask for a draft, not edits. Request a short report with source-file references, saved to a separate output file if your version supports it.
- Review every claim and action. Compare calculations with the source data, inspect changed files, and reject any connector or share action you did not intend.
- Promote only a proven routine. Create a skill after you have corrected the same process several times. Keep high-impact sends, deletes, and financial decisions under human approval.
