Can a Meta image model help someone earn an income, or just make more pictures? Income Testing Lab's Muse review works through three plausible offers: print-on-demand products, digital image packs and creative help for local shops. The useful answer is not “press generate and get paid.” Muse may shorten production and administration, but a seller still has to choose a buyer, make an original offer, check quality and win the sale.
The video presents three business-model tests, not three demonstrated streams of income. It does not show completed orders, paying clients or an audited profit statement. Muse Image's $0.01 developer price is only the cost of a generated image. For a beginner, a small product-photo service with a real client's permission may be easier to differentiate than another generic AI clip-art pack; that is a testable hypothesis, not a guaranteed ranking of business ideas.

Two Muse Tools, Two Different Jobs
Muse Image makes and edits artwork in Meta AI; Meta also offers it as a developer model through providers including fal. Meta lists $0.01 per generated image for that model and fal marks its endpoint for commercial use. Free consumer image access is subject to app limits and regional rollout; it is not the same billing path as the API.
The Muse agent is a separate product running tasks on a cloud computer. Meta's launch description says it is free for many basic uses with paid plans for more. Muse for Small Business adds connectors including Shopify, Stripe, Canva, Figma, QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Dropbox, Notion, Slack and Meta business accounts. Meta says publishing, sending and spending require approval. Connector availability and agent access can vary by account and region; do not assume an Etsy connector exists just because Shopify is supported. The agent was announced for the US, with Meta's later business announcement also naming Canada, while image generation has broader availability.
Three Income Paths in the Video
1. Print-on-demand products
The workable route
Pick a narrow customer and original design concept; use Muse Image to iterate artwork; prepare a file for the actual print area; order a sample; then list the item through Printify and a store. A Shopify seller may use Muse's connector to draft or revise product copy. An Etsy seller must manage the listing and disclose the production partner and AI use where applicable.
The decision point
Printify recommends roughly 300 DPI for most PNG/JPEG files, but the required pixel dimensions vary by product. Transparency is useful for a design that should show the garment color; it is not required for every print. Check the physical sample, including color and wash quality. The video's roughly $9-per-shirt figure is an illustration, not a margin guaranteed after all fees, ads, returns and taxes.
2. Digital image packs
The workable route
Make a coherent set for a specific use, such as matching invitation illustrations, rather than 20 unrelated pictures. Inspect each file for consistent style, cutout edges, transparency and usable dimensions. Show the whole pack in the preview, explain formats and license terms plainly, and consider Etsy or a download-focused storefront for distribution.
The decision point
Digital files avoid shipping but not competition, customer questions or marketplace fees. Etsy permits seller-prompted AI creations under its Creativity Standards and requires AI use in the listing description. Its rules do not make someone else's designs, logos or likenesses yours to sell. The video's $8 pack and $6.79 retained amount are US-style fee assumptions, not a universal net profit.
3. Services for small shops
The workable route
Offer a small, bounded package: one accurate white-background product photo plus several approved lifestyle scenes, or a guided setup for Shopify and Instagram with draft posts. Start from a real photo supplied with permission. Have the owner approve every image, claim, connector permission and scheduled post before delivery.
The decision point
AI editing can change a label, color, size or material while making a prettier scene. Compare every deliverable with the real item, and do not present a generated scene as documentary evidence of a product feature. The video's freelance price examples are market observations, not proof of what a new provider will be paid. Scope revisions, turnaround and usage rights in the offer.
What the Video's Unit Economics Leave Out
For the shirt example, $27.99 revenue minus an assumed $16 production-and-shipping cost leaves $11.99 before marketplace fees. Etsy's published fees include a $0.20 listing charge, a 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing that varies by seller location; advertising, refunds, currency conversion and taxes can add more. If those initial cost assumptions are wrong, the margin moves quickly. Printify sample orders are paid, so include at least one in the launch budget.
For an $8 download, there is no print cost, but Etsy still charges listing, transaction and payment fees. The video's $6.79 retained amount is roughly one US fee scenario before other costs. A Portugal-based seller, for example, faces a different Etsy Payments processing schedule. More important than a model's one-cent generation price: count time spent researching, editing, reviewing, supporting buyers and finding traffic. A profitable listing requires buyers who want the particular asset, not just cheap asset production.
Rights, Provenance and Account Controls
Etsy's Creativity Standards require original seller design and disclosure of seller-prompted AI creations; a third-party print shop must be identified as a production partner. Avoid recognizable brands and real people's likenesses without the necessary rights and consent. Meta's Muse Image technical announcement says images made in Meta AI and on meta.ai carry an invisible Content Seal signal, including after ordinary crops or screenshots. It does not establish that every image from every API route carries the same signal. That watermark does not replace the seller's disclosure or rights review.
Muse's connected-business features are still an agent with access to customer and store data. Connect only the tools a task needs, check permissions, inspect drafts and leave approval required for messages, publishing and payments. Meta describes these controls in its business launch post. Those are vendor-described safeguards; a shop owner remains responsible for the final listing and customer communication.
A One-Month Test With a Real Stop Rule
Pick one path, one narrowly defined buyer and one offer. For print products, approve three designs and order one sample before expanding the catalog. For downloads, publish a small coherent pack and measure views, conversion and support requests. For services, sell a four-image pilot to one local merchant with written scope and permission to use their product photos. Track hours, direct costs, traffic, inquiries and paid sales each week. If no one wants the offer after a month, change the niche or distribution plan before paying for more generations or more agent connectors.
