Text Your ChatGPT Dot? Riley Brown on Siri, Duet and the Agent Week

Riley Brown's weekly AI agent update starts with a genuinely useful change: he texts his ChatGPT Dot from iMessage, then asks it to start a local coding task. He also tours Apple's Siri beta, Grok Bot, Claude Duet and Gemini 4 Carbon. The catch is that these products have very different access rules. The business stories at the end need a different kind of check again: a filed IPO is not a completed one, and a voluntary exit offer is not a count of layoffs.

The quick read

Dot texting is a limited US Pro beta; Dot itself is not currently offered in the EEA. Higher allowances apply to specified Work and Codex plans, not every ChatGPT subscription. Apple's new Siri is a device- and region-limited beta. Claude Duet is on a US research-preview waitlist, and Carbon began with selected partners. Start by checking your account's actual access and permissions before changing plans.

A Textable Dot Is a New Channel, Not Automatic Computer Access

At 00:29, Riley verifies a phone number, sends his Dot a message, asks for a scheduled recap by text and dictates a coding request. The valuable change is continuity: the same agent can receive context from the phone instead of requiring a fresh conversation. OpenAI's Dot guide says texting supports iMessage and RCS in a limited US Pro beta, not SMS or all Dot plans. The Dot cannot read unrelated conversations in your Messages app just because you can text it. Messages also pass through a delivery partner and are not end-to-end encrypted in this beta; avoid sending credentials or sensitive client material through that channel.

Riley asks Dot to start a local Codex task. That is possible only after a computer is explicitly connected through the ChatGPT desktop app; local access starts off. A text message is an instruction to an already configured agent, not a magic remote login to every device you own. Review the requested file changes before anything is pushed.

At 03:28, Riley describes more generous limits. OpenAI's 29 October release note says it doubled Work and Codex allowances for Pro $100 and Pro $500, canceled the planned Pro $200 cut and improved lower Pro $200 allowances. Business Premium is also included in its announcement. This is not a blanket doubling of Plus or every kind of chat usage. Check the Usage page on your own account before budgeting an agent workflow around a headline multiplier.

Three Personal Agents, Three Different Boundaries

Siri AI: promising, but still a regional beta

Riley's iOS 27 developer-beta demo shows Siri answering with conversational context, seeing an on-screen item and opening an app. These are his examples, not proof that Siri can operate every app. Apple's user guide lists supported iPhone hardware and languages and says Siri AI is not initially available in the EU. For readers in Portugal, the responsible next step is to watch the local rollout, not install an early beta expecting Riley's exact experience.

Grok Bot: more tools also mean more permissions

At 09:44, Riley highlights Pages, better video output, Apple location and calendar connections, and a password vault. The official changelog and mobile guide document these expanding surfaces. The Vault documentation explains that saved secrets can be used by Bots on the same account and that payment behavior depends on the method configured. A vault can reduce copying passwords into chat, but it also makes the account's permissions more consequential. Add only credentials and actions you actually need.

Claude Duet: a useful preview with a missing local handoff

Riley says he planned his presentation in Claude Duet and likes its channels. At 10:36, he also points out the limit that matters to his workflow: unlike his Claude Projects setup, Duet could not start his local Claude Code session. He reports that an Anthropic employee said remote control and local Mac access were being worked on; that is not a shipped feature. Anthropic's product page lists a US research preview for eligible Pro, Max and Ultra users through a waitlist. If local work is essential, do not migrate your process to Duet based on a future promise.

Carbon: Strong Vendor Benchmarks, Limited Access

Riley reads Google's Gemini 4 Carbon numbers but is skeptical because Argon's earlier benchmark story did not match his own experience. That skepticism is a useful testing principle, not a benchmark result of its own. Google's launch post describes strong evaluations and a staged rollout starting with selected cyber defenders and trusted partners. It does not make Carbon generally selectable in every Gemini account. Save one task you know well, then compare Carbon when you actually receive access; a leaderboard alone cannot decide your workflow.

The Company Stories Need Their Own Fact Check

Anthropic filed an S-1; the IPO is not complete

At 12:44, Riley turns Anthropic's filing into a slide deck and points to roughly 900% revenue retention. Anthropic confirms the S-1 filing, but the share count and price were not set and the registration was not yet effective. The SEC filing defines the approximately 900% figure as net revenue retention for a qualifying customer cohort, comparing three-month periods year over year and excluding individual Pro and Max subscriptions. It does not mean every Anthropic customer spends nine times as much as last year. Anthropic also says its operational metrics were not independently verified.

Microsoft announced a voluntary offer, not a verified 60,000-person exit

Riley's 14:04 segment connects Microsoft's voluntary exit offer to a prediction about agent-related jobs. The official Microsoft notice confirms a time-limited, voluntary program for eligible employees in participating teams in Canada, India, the UK and the US. It does not give Riley's 60,000-person or 27% figure, identify a list of affected job families, or say AI caused these exits. An offer is not the same as accepted departures or layoffs. The defensible takeaway is that firms are changing workflows; the scale and employment effects here remain to be established.

What Should You Try This Week?

If your question is...First checkUseful next move
Can my agent reach me by text?Dot eligibility: US Pro beta; no current EEA rollout.Use the ChatGPT app's Dot channel if available. Add a daily summary before granting app or computer access.
Did my usage budget change?Your account's Work and Codex Usage page.Run one real task and compare allowance consumed; do not infer a Plus increase from Pro news.
Should I switch to a new agent?Which files, devices and credentials must it access?Trial one low-risk recurring task. Keep the human approval point explicit.
Should I trust a model or company headline?Rollout terms, metric definition and primary filing.Compare on your own workload and separate the company's facts from forecasts.

That is the thread running through Riley's update: agent capability is becoming less about a single chat window and more about where the agent can reach you, what it can access, and when you must approve its actions. The practical upgrade is a small, supervised handoff you can repeat, not another account connected everywhere.

Common questions

Can I text my ChatGPT Dot from Portugal?
Not under the current rollout. OpenAI says Dot texting is a limited beta for US Pro users, and Dot itself is not currently offered in the EEA.
Did OpenAI double ChatGPT usage for every plan?
No. The October 29 release note concerns Work and Codex allowances on specified Pro tiers and Business Premium. It does not announce a blanket doubling for Plus.
Can I use Siri AI or Gemini 4 Carbon now?
Siri AI is an iOS 27 beta with device, language and regional requirements, and Apple says it is not initially available in the EU. Carbon began with limited partner access, not a general Gemini-app rollout.
Does the Microsoft notice confirm 60,000 AI-related layoffs?
No. Microsoft announced a voluntary exit offer for eligible staff in participating teams, but its official notice gives no 60,000-person figure, job-family tally or AI-causation finding.
