Give Your Demo Video a Useful Evidence Page

Publish what the demonstration leaves unanswered

A useful companion page explains what a viewer needs to know before trying or buying the system shown in a video. Include the setup, the input, the approval steps, the limits, and the next action. A transcript can help, but repeating the spoken script does not answer questions that the recording never addressed.

Search Engine Journal reported on 18 September that Google was testing a video-led “Dive deeper” experience in Discover with related coverage. The report does not specify a general rollout or establish how a small business can earn placement. The editorial lesson here is a recommendation: make the material surrounding a demonstration worth reading on its own.

Start with the buyer's missing questions

Watch the demo as someone who has to operate the workflow next Monday. Which accounts are required? Was the input cleaned beforehand? Did a person select the best result? What does the system do when a file is missing? Who approves an external action? Write down the questions that the video leaves open.

Group them by decision rather than timestamp. A buyer may need to decide whether the workflow fits their tools, whether the output is usable, and whether the maintenance is acceptable. Those questions should shape the article. Keep a transcript separately if exact spoken wording is useful.

Build a compact evidence record

Page elementWhat to include
ScopeThe task demonstrated and what was outside it
SetupRelevant tools, versions, permissions, and preparation
Input and outputApproved examples with private information removed
Human decisionsSelection, correction, and approval steps
LimitationsObserved failures and conditions not tested

Only publish examples you have permission to share. When an example must be reconstructed, label it as illustrative. A polished mockup can explain a workflow, but it cannot serve as evidence that the workflow produced that result.

A fictional reporting demo

Suppose a short video shows a spreadsheet becoming a branded report. The companion page can show the required column names, a small fictional input, a sample output, and the review checklist. It can explain what happens when a required column is absent, which calculations use ordinary code, and which passages are drafted by AI.

If the recording shows a timer, explain what that timer includes. Processing time is different from preparation, correction, and approval. Do not describe an edited recording as an end-to-end speed benchmark. A reader should be able to understand the boundaries without analysing every video frame.

Make the page independently useful

Use a direct opening answer, descriptive headings, and links to the relevant service or system. Put the video where it helps explain the workflow. Avoid adding a duplicate static thumbnail directly below the same embedded player; use additional images only when they communicate setup or evidence.

Google's guidance does not require a special writing format or special schema for generative AI search. Write for the reader's decision. Structured data should describe the real page and any eligible content accurately, rather than advertise an imagined shortcut into AI answers.

Keep corrections connected across formats

Give the page an owner and note the date of the demonstration. When a tool changes, update the affected instructions and state what has changed. If the video is no longer representative, add a visible correction or replace it. The page and recording should not quietly make conflicting promises.

Evaluate whether visitors use the practical material and ask better-qualified questions. Do not treat a change in Discover impressions as proof that the companion page caused it. Our video-format article covers that separate comparison.

For a team producing regular demos, JQ's content systems service can turn approved evidence into a repeatable publishing package. Begin with one demonstration and the questions its viewers still need answered.

Common questions

Should I publish a transcript or a separate demo article?
Use the format that serves the viewer. A transcript helps access the spoken content; a companion article earns its place by adding setup details, constraints, evidence, and answers that the video does not provide.
Will a companion page appear in Google Discover?
There is no guarantee. The September report describes an experiment, and it does not establish a reliable tactic for obtaining inclusion.
