ChatGPT and Grok Bot: 7 Everyday Updates Worth Trying

Igor Pogany of The AI Advantage is less interested in another model leaderboard than in an assistant that handles the unglamorous work: finding an invoice, checking a calendar, or starting a task from a phone. His video covers seven useful changes across ChatGPT and Grok Bot. Some are available now; others depend on a plan, region, device, or connector. Here is the practical version, including the places where the current documentation differs from his on-screen setup.

The quick answer

Start with iCloud Mail and Calendar in ChatGPT if you already use those accounts: OpenAI lists them for all plans. Try one read-only summary before letting an agent change anything. Dot texting is still a limited US Pro beta, unavailable to readers in the EEA. Grok Bot's phone integrations, Pages, 1Password sign-in and Action Button shortcut can be useful, but each adds a different permission or rollout boundary. Pick one task, review its output, then widen access only if it earns your trust.

ChatGPT: Two Practical Changes and a Plan Check

1. Reach a Dot by text or voice, where available

Igor likes his Dot as a phone companion, although he says it sometimes ignores his custom rules and did not reliably book his Slack meetings. At 01:15, he finds the new texting option but cannot complete setup with his international number. That is consistent with OpenAI's current rules: texting is a limited beta for US Pro users using iMessage or RCS. Dot access itself excludes the EEA, Switzerland and UK for Pro users. A texting address does not grant Dot access to your other messages, but texts travel through a third-party delivery provider and are not end-to-end encrypted between you and Dot.

He finds voice calls noticeably quicker than before. That is Igor's experience, not a published speed guarantee. OpenAI says you can call your Dot from the ChatGPT mobile app, while the Dot cannot initiate a call to you at launch. A call is a useful way to capture a task while walking; verify the resulting task and any scheduled action afterward.

2. Connect iCloud Mail and Calendar without forwarding your inbox

At 03:39, Igor shows iCloud Mail and Calendar in ChatGPT's plugins. OpenAI's 27 October release note says these connections are available to all ChatGPT plans on web, desktop and iOS. They can find mail, summarize an inbox, check a schedule and update events. That is more direct than forwarding an entire mailbox to a second provider, but it is still a significant connection: review what the plugin can read and change before enabling it. A first test could be, 'List tomorrow's appointments and cite the calendar event for each; do not change anything.'

Plan check: Igor also covers higher ChatGPT limits and a possible future simplification of Chat and Work. OpenAI's published change increases Work and Codex allowances for specified Pro and Business Premium plans; it is not a doubling for every Plus user or every chat mode. The Chat/Work merger remains a direction discussed in the video, not an interface change to assume today.

Grok Bot: Five Ways to Make a Phone-Based Assistant Useful

Igor frames Grok Bot as several specialized helpers. The official overview supports separate Bot roles, but its computer guide is clear: Bots on one account share a persistent cloud computer, including files and signed-in browser sessions. Different Bot names are not security isolation.

3. Use selected phone apps from a Bot chat

At 06:17, Igor discovers that the phone-app connections are configured in the mobile app. xAI's mobile guide requires an eligible plan and documents access to selected calendar, contacts, location, alarms and timers, with reminders and Home controls on iPhone. The Bot can reach those apps only while Grok Bot is open on the phone, in your own chat with a Bot you own, and after the relevant phone permissions are granted. Start with a read-only calendar or contact lookup; do not grant home-lock or location access just because the switch is there.

4. Turn a recurring check into a Page

Igor's podcast tracker collects calendar entries, links and transcripts into one Page for his team. Pages can hold reports, tables and dashboards and are rolling out gradually. The reusable idea is a single maintained view of a recurring job, not a dozen chats you must search later. Keep a private tracker private: a Page shared with 'anyone with the link' is accessible to whoever has that URL. Igor also notices Slides in his account; treat that as his screen observation, not proof of availability for everyone.

5. Let 1Password fill an approved login, with the current limits

At 08:19, Igor shows a password-manager connection and describes a separate shared vault for his agent. That setup does not match the current 1Password for Agents guide: its Grok Bot integration supports approved Login items from a Personal or Private vault, not shared vaults. It currently requires an individual or family account on 1Password.com; business, .eu and .ca accounts are excluded. A login request appears for your approval and expires after 30 days. The agent does not receive the secret value, but it can still act in the signed-in site after approval, so choose a low-risk account and review the destination and requested action. A password manager helps avoid reuse; it does not make every connected agent or site safe.

6. Put voice chat on the iPhone Action Button

Igor remaps his iPhone Action Button to start a Grok Bot voice chat. The mobile guide gives the route: iPhone Settings > Action Button > Shortcut > Grok Bot > Start Voice Chat, then choose the Bot. This is a convenience shortcut, not a reason to let voice alone authorize payments or outgoing email. Igor mentions a Samsung side button as a possibility, but the video does not verify a matching Grok Bot setup there.

7. Import context, then inspect what you carried over

At 11:01, Igor shows Grok Bot's memory import. The official instructions ask you to copy an import prompt into another assistant, paste its response into Grok Bot and add it to memory. This is a manual transfer, not a live shared memory layer. Read the generated profile first; remove confidential client details, outdated preferences and facts you do not want repeated across Bots.

Choose a Task, Not an Assistant Brand

Igor draws inspiration from a Reddit user's family and HVAC-company Bot list. It is a useful menu of ideas, but it is one person's self-report, not an audited case study or a safe default permission set. The attractive first tasks are the ones that produce something easy to check.

Recurring frictionFirst pilotKeep human control over
School and household emailSummarize dates and cite the original messages.Calendar edits, replies and deletion.
Missing business receiptsMatch a small sample of transactions to emailed receipts.Bookkeeping changes, vendor emails and payments.
Podcast follow-upCreate a private Page with episodes, links and missing assets.Public sharing and publishing.

The loop Igor describes at 06:37 is the part worth keeping: try a bounded task, point out the error, record the correction, and test again. Do not mistake a growing pile of rules for reliable execution. Measure whether the second run actually needs less correction.

Common questions

Can I text a ChatGPT Dot from Portugal?
Not under the current rollout. OpenAI limits Dot texting to some US Pro users, and Dot itself is not currently available in the EEA.
Do I need ChatGPT Pro to connect iCloud Mail and Calendar?
No. OpenAI says the iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins are available to all ChatGPT plans on web, desktop and iOS, subject to rollout and account settings.
Can Grok Bot use a shared 1Password vault?
The current 1Password for Agents integration supports approved Login items in a Personal or Private vault, not shared vaults. It also excludes 1Password.eu and .ca accounts and business accounts for now.
Does each Grok Bot have a separate computer?
No. xAI says Bots on the same account share a persistent cloud computer, including files and signed-in browser sessions. Separate Bot roles do not create isolated credentials.
